Biological data

Nothing is known of the biology of this thrips

Distribution data

Described from a single female collected in Java, five females were subsequently collected in Southern China (Zhang et al. 2018).

Nomenclatural data

Moundinothrips Bhatti, 1999: 9. Replacement name for Moundothrips Bhatti, 1995: 65 [homonym of Moundothrips Wilson, 1975], type species Moundothrips robustus Bhatti, 1995, by monotypy.

Only one species is recognised in this genus (ThripsWiki 2020), and this is recorded from China:

robustus (Bhatti, 1995: 66) (Moundothrips)

Relationship data

Thripidae sub-family Thripinae: this is a diverse group involving more than 230 genera. In general appearance the single species in this genus looks very like a member of Taeniothrips, but the first antennal segment has a pair of dorso-apical setae, the posterior margin of the pronotum bears a single pair of setae, and the posterior margin of sternite VII has only two pairs of setae.
