Generic diagnosis

Head wider than long with frontal costa notched; ocellar setae pair I absent; maxillary palps 3-segmented. Antennae 8-segmented; segment I with 1 or 2 dorso-apical setae; III and IV with forked sense cone. Pronotum with one pair of posteroangulae setae. Mesofurcal spinula present, metafurcal spinula absent. Metascutum smooth medially. Tarsi 2-segmented. Fore wing slender, first vein setal row broadly interrupted; costal setae at middle of wing more than twice as long as wing width at middle. Tergites and sternites without a craspedum; tergite X not split.

Distribution data

The type species was described from India, but subsequently recorded from Yunnan, and the second member of the genus was described from Java.

Nomenclatural data

Laplothrips Bhatti, 1972: 544. Type species Laplothrips bicolor Bhatti, 1972, by monotypy.

Although this genus was erected for the single species bicolor, a second species, concaviceps Priesner was added subsequently (ThripsWiki 2020):

bicolor Bhatti, 1972: 545.

Relationship data

This genus is related to Trichromothrips but differs in having only one pair of pronotal posteroangular setae.
