Genus  Aleuronudus  Hempel.

Nomenclature:

Aleuronudus Hempel, 1922: 5.   Type-species:  Aleuronudus induratus Hempel.

Hexaleurodicus   Bondar [Bondar, G., 1923: 84] syn. nov. [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 32]

Hexaleurodicus (Drewsia)   Sampson

Pseualeurodicus   Hempel, 1922: 9.  Type-species: Pseualeurodicus bahiensis Hempel.

Pentaleurodicus   Bondar, 1923: 85-87.  Type-species:  Pentaleurodicus induratus Hempel.

Distribution: All are natives of the Neotropics including one species from the Caribbean.

Taxonomy:

Terminal claw present on each leg.

Seven pair of compound pores including a cephalothoracic pair, the abdominal pairs often two and sometimes of three sizes; contains central processes resembling bundled rods that do not extend beyond the pore margins (without cone-like central processes, except for the first abdominal compound pore in one species);  the last three abdominal pores (except for A. induratus Hempel) are reduced.

Vasiform orifice subchordate with a straight anterior edge;   Lingula large and either inserted or exserted (Glossary definition).

Submedian cephalothoracic setae entirely absent; 12 pairs of submarginal setae present.

Simple pores usually absent; but if present, loosely scattered in the submarginal area.

Related genera: Closer to Metaleurodicus  both lacking any cephalothoracic median setae.  Differs in the distribution pattern of the compound pores:  not distributed in an uniform concentric arc; several species have the posterior 3 abdominal compound pores reduced in size.
