Genus  Nealeurodicus  Hempel first described in 1923

Nomenclature:

            Nealeurodicus Hempel  [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 53][Hempel, A.  1922: 1134 & 1170].

Biology: Puparia secrete a hard waxy covering that appears fibrous toward the margin.

Distribution [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 53][Hempel, A.  1923: 1170-71]: New World

Taxonomy [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 53][Hempel, A.  1923: 1170-71]:

Terminal claw present on each leg.  4 pairs of cephalothoracic setae present; 12-15 pairs of  long & robust setae close to  and extending beyond puparial margin;  margin crenate; radial rays (variable number) sometimes present without marginal modifications.

Always with a pair of  compound  pores on the cephalic and abdominal segment VIII; distribution,  size and structure of compound pores varies among species: 4 to 6 abdominal pores present.

Vasiform orifice is large and chordate-shaped ending in a posterior small projection;  operculum transversely rectangular; lingula large, spatulate, containing two pair of setae & inserted (glossary definition).

Related genera: Close to Ceraleurodicus from which several of the species were referred to Nealeurodicus [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 53]:  C. altissimus (Quaintance),  C. bakeri C. ingae (Baker), C. melzeri (Laing),  N. moreirai (Costa Lima),  C. octifer (Bondar).  Ceraleurodicus can be separated from Nealeurodicus by the above characters listed above whereas Ceraleurodicus is asymmetrical in shape ("banana"-shaped) and in compound pore outline (never paired usually occuring on one side of the pupa only and with one pair sometimes below the vasiform orifice), and the 12-15 long and robust pairs of submarginal, long and robust, setae very close to puparial margin.
