Aleurodicus rugioperculatus sp. nov

Nomenclature

Aleurodicus rugioperculatus    sp. nov [Martin, 2004: Zootaxa: 29]

Distribution [Martin, 2004: Zootaxa: 29]: Neotropical: Belize.   

Host [Martin, 2004: Zootaxa: 29]:  Arecaceae:  Cocos nucifera;   Myrtaceae: Psidium guavaja; indet broadleaved plant.

Taxonomy [Martin, 2004: Zootaxa: 29]: Margin smooth to broadly lobulate.

Seven pairs of compound pores present including larger cephalic & first four pairs of abdominal pairs (30-40 mm) with central processes dagger-shaped, and protuding just beyond pore rim;  the last two posterior pairs reduced (10-12 mm) with those on segment VII twice as long as those on VIII.

Vasiform orifice broadly chordate, slightly emarginate to either side of lingula; operculum broadly ellyptical for its anterior edge with a distinctly rugose or corrugated surface;  lingula apically acute, exserted and slightly short of the posterior margin of pupa.

Anterior marginal setae not evident; posterior marginal setae present;12 pairs of submarginal setae; single submedian pair (finer & shorter than submarginal setae) of pro-, meso- and metathoracic setae present

Broad, submarginal dense band of wide-rimmed pores forming a mesially-directed lobes present;  band interrupted below apex of lingula.  Subdorsum with a reticulated pattern from cephalothorax to abbdomen.

Natural Enemies: Unknown but signs of parasitism is pronounced.

Related genera: Except for the lingula with a narrowly acute apex, this species resembles that of  Aleurodicus niveus sp. nov..
