Genus Aleuropleurocelus Drews & Sampson & Tetralicia Harrison

 Nomenclature  [Drews & Sampson 1958: 282 ] :

Aleuropleurocelus Drews & Sampson

Biology: Puparia always black,  appear to be limited to plants of the arid or semi-arid areas of the chapparal type (such as Eriodictyon, Santa Yerba,  in Nevada).  Shape is usually elongate and boat-like for the Aleuropleurocelus or elliptical-oval for the Tetralicia.

Distribution:  See list of species below.

Taxonomy  [Annals ESA: vol 49: No.3 1956: 280-281] Puparia needs to be bleached-too dark;  margin deflexed slightly (Tetralicia) or meeting closer to the shortened ventral disc (Aleuropleurocelus).

Inner margin of vasiform orifice smooth or dentate; lingula usually obscured; operculum covers from 50%  (Aleuropleurocelus) to more than 70% (Tetralicia) of the vasiform orifice.

Puparia usually covered with granules or imbrications; most, but not all, posterior area pointed with apical pair of setae.

Natural Enemies:

Related genera:  Aleuropleurocelus Used to be in the genus Tetralicia.   Differs from this genus  since Tetralicia has a dentate inner margin of the vasiform orifice and the operculum occupies at least 75% of the vasiform orifice.
