Taxonomy [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 48]:

Margin appears somewhat dentate and not modified at the thoracic trachea margin.

Vasiform orifice chordate and slightly emarginate midway;  operculum wider than long, laterally rounded and a sinuous posterior margin with a pair of stout marginal setae;  lingula tongue-shaped exserted extending slightly beyond the orifice. 

Minute anterior marginal setae present; 12 pairs of submarginal hair-like setae with the caudal pair longer & more stout;  8th abdominal setae similar to marginal setae and positioned anterior to orifice.

6 compound pores present and bell-shaped from  about 12-16 (for smaller specimens) to 20 μm in diameter (for larger ones);  compound pores lack spinneret cells in outer zone.

Dorsal 4- to 5-loculate  and minute wide-rimmed simple pores present.  Single row of marginal pore-like structures resembling scallop;  adjacent medially from, but not associated with, the scallop-like single row is a second row of minute bright pores.

Natural Enemies: unknown.

Related Genera [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 49]: This species is similar to M. cardini (Back).  It can be separated from this species by possessing not four abdominal compound pore pairs but five and lacks a submarginal row of 8 shaped pores.
