Genus: Acutaleyrodes Takahashi
Acutaleyrodes Takahashi 1960: 146-147 Type-species: Acutaleyrodes palmae Takahashi 1960, by monotypy.
Biology: Cuticle pale (undescribed species in quarantine)
Distribution: Predominately Palaearctic with one species from Oriental (China) and few from Afrotropical regions.
Taxonomy: This genus is monotypic recognizeable because
of the following combination of character:
Outline. Puparium narrowed to
oval-elongated with a pointed or truncated posterior margin. Margin. Marginal crenulations minute. Dorsum. Submarginal area well defined lacking a subdorsal
suture; thoracic tracheal combs present; caudal furrow reduced or absent.
Dorsal papillae or tubercles absent minute marginal crenulations; vasiform
orifice rounded, operculum wider than long, occupying half the orifice, lingula
obscured.
Similar Genera: Only an undescribed
species of Acutaleyrodes has been intercepted in quarantine from Mexico on Chamadorea. It is similar to Stenaleyrodes,
also found on palms, with a very elongate narrow body; however the vasiform
orifice and the lingula are obscured by the rounded operculum in Acutaleyrodes
while in Stenaleyrodes
the vasiform orifice is triangular and the lingula is not obscured.
Natural Enemies: unknown.
