Genus: Metaleurodicus Quaintance & Baker
Nomenclature [Martin 2004: 47]:
Metaleurodicus Bondar 1923: 8.
Aleurodicus (Metaleurodicus) Quaintance & Baker, 1913: 73
Pseudaleurodicus Hempel, 1922: 9
Distribution: Neotropical
Taxonomy [Martin 2004: 47]: Terminal claw present on each leg; row of 12 pairs of submarginal setae including the caudal pair.
Four or six pairs of abdominal and one cephalic pair of compound pores without cone-shaped central process. Paired submedian cephalothoracic setae absent.
Dorsal disc without distinct groupings of simple pores, but large numbers may be equally distributed; four or five loculate pores, "stellate or cruciate" shaped, occur at least on the abdomen in two species ( M. cardini Back & Metaleurodicus griseus Dozier or somewhat diamond-shaped in one species (M. minimus Quaintance); Vasiform orifice shape varies from subchordate to triangular; lingula is inserted or exserted (glossary definition), setose with two pair of setae.
The most commonly intercepted species is Metaleurodicus cardini (Back) that has four abdominal compound and obvious multiloculate (stellate) pores.
Similar genera: Most species known for the
loculate pores. The following species
with six pairs of abdominal compound pores of the genus Metaleurodicus
have been transferred into Aleuronudus because of having the
last three abdominal pores reduced:
Aleuronudus jequiensis Bondar, Aleuronudus manni (Baker),&
Aleuronudus melzeri Bondar.
