Properties:

• Vitreous to greasy lustre
• Green color; sometimes brownish
• White to pale green streak
• Knife scratches easily (Mohs Hardness 2.5)
• Average to above average density
• Single perfect cleavage apparent unless finegrained
• Cleaves rather than fractures
• Not ferromagnetic
• Does not react with hydrochloric acid (HCl)

Occurrence:

Chlorite is a common mineral in low grade metamorphic rocks and in hydrothermal vein and replacement ore deposits. It also replaces primary ferromagnesian minerals in igneous rocks.
