Description

This is an interactive key created to identify timbers commonly traded in Brazil. The identification is based on general characters and macroscopic anatomical features of wood and the use of a pocket knife to make the cut and a 10x magnifying glass to observe the characteristics is suggested in order to proceed with the identification process.

The key was developed by the Forest Products Laboratory – LPF of the Brazilian Forest Service – SFB. The main objective was to increase the amount of wood species available in the identification key in DELTA format Brazilian commercial timbers: interactive identification key based on general and macroscopic features (CORADIN, V. T. R. et al, 2010).

Data available in this identification database were obtained both from the analysis of samples in the laboratory’s wood scientific collection and the original data from the interactive key published in 2010.

The nomenclature was revised according to the Brazilian Flora Species List in 2020.
