Distribution and Habitat

Yallingup to Two Peoples Bay, growing in sandy soils in coastal woodlands and shrublands.

Description

A common coastal subspecies 250–500 mm high with a hairy leaf 90–150 mm long by 4–10 mm wide and up to three variably red, cream, green and yellow flowers 60–80 mm across The labellum fringe segments are short and often spread out sideways.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the subsp. erubescens by its red, cream, green and yellow flower colour. From the more distantly related Boranup Spider Orchid (Caladenia ambusta) it is distinguished by its earlier flowering period, larger flowers and broader labellum with spreading, rather than up-curved fringe segments.
