Distribution and Habitat

Bolgart to Tambelup and between Margaret River and Boyanup, growing in sandy and sandy-clay soils in woodlands and shrublands. It has not been found between these two areas.

Description

A colourful species 200–450 mm high with a hairy leaf 150–200 mm long by 2–5 mm wide and up to three variably red, yellow or cream flowers 100–120 mm across. Adjacent clumps of plants will often have different coloured flowers.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from all other members of the Caladenia filamentosa complex by its large colourful flowers with pendulous petals and lateral sepals. Only Noble Spider Orchid (C. nobilis) attains the same size as C. chapmanii but differs in its paler colouration and the more diffuse, sometimes broken radiating lines on the labellum lamina.
