Distribution and Habitat

Watheroo to Koojan, growing in sandy-clay and lateritic soils in open woodlands and shrublands.

Description

An uncommon species 150–350 mm high with a hairy leaf 50–150 mm long by 2–4 mm wide and up to two red to deep pink flowers 60–80 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Blood Spider Orchid (Caladenia filifera) by its broader more stiffly held flowers with generally shorter petals and sepals and a smaller labellum with a cream basal lamina and central calli extending further towards the apex. It also has a more northerly range of distribution.
