Distribution and Habitat

Dowering to Nyabing, growing in sandy-clay soils in open woodlands and shrublands.

Description

A common species 200–300 mm high with a dull hairy leaf 60–100 mm long by 3-5 mm wide and up to three red, yellow or cream flowers 30–60 mm across. The petals and sepals are covered in deep-red hairs which are particularly noticeable in the early morning or late afternoon sunlight.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Chameleon Spider Orchid (Caladenia dimidia) by its usually longer, pendulous petals and lateral sepals and its often more colourful dull red to pinkish-red, rather than cream or pale yellow flowers.
