Distribution and Habitat

Woodaniling to Nyabing and also between Pithara and Gunyidi, growing in sandy and sandy-clay soils in woodlands and shrublands, often in areas surrounding salt lakes and flats.

Description

A common subspecies 150–250 mm high with a hairy leaf 40–100 mm long by 4–7 mm wide and up to three white to creamy-white flowers 40–60 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the subsp. vanleeuwenii by its consistently creamy-white rather than variably creamy-white, red or yellow flowers. From the more distantly related Common Spider Orchid (Caladenia varians) it is distinguished by its smaller flowers, usually narrower petals and sepals, smaller, narrower labellum and confinement to salt lake margins and winter-wet flats.
