North of Moora to Mogumber, growing in clay and sandy-clay soils in woodlands and shrublands.

A rare subspecies 150–250 mm high with a hairy leaf 60–120 mm long by 4–6 mm wide and up to three variably creamy-white, red or pale yellow flowers 40–60 mm across.
It is distinguished from the subsp. exilis by its variably creamy-white, red or yellow rather than consistently creamy-white flowers.
