Distribution and Habitat

York to Wandering, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and lateritic soils in woodlands and shrublands. Plants with flowers resembling this subspecies in colour and form and with a similarly late flowering period have been found over a much wider area. These require additional study to ascertain if they represent this subspecies or are forms of the typical subspecies.

Description

A colourful subspecies 80–120 mm high with a hairy leaf, 100–150 mm long by 12–15 mm wide, which is tinged reddish-purple on the underside and up to three, golden-yellow, prominently red-marked flowers 20–30 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

Where it grows with the typical subspecies it is distinguished by its shorter stature, prominently red marked flowers and later flowering period.
