Distribution and Habitat

Binnu to Cranbrook with rare populations inland to east of Hyden, growing in sandy-clay, lateritic and granitic soils in woodlands and shrublands. Disjunct inland populations have been found on granite outcrops near Beacon and along the Hyden-Norseman Road.

Description

A widespread species 100–120 mm high with a hairy leaf 70–120 mm long by 2–4 mm wide and up to three pinkish-red flowers 50–80 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Ruby Spider Orchid (Caladenia occidentalis) by its shorter, stiffly spreading, uniformly coloured petals and sepals, pink-tipped calli and distribution away from the coast.
