Distribution and Habitat

Capel to Nerren Nerren Station, growing in sandy and sandy-clay soils in woodlands and shrublands.

Description

A large-flowered species 200–350 mm (rarely to 400 mm) high with a hairy leaf 100–180 mm long by 3–6 mm wide and up to two creamy-white, greyish-white or yellowish-white flowers 100–130 mm across. There are three forms–a Geraldton to Kalbarri form with greyish-white petals and sepals and a relatively broad labellum, a Geraldton to Gingin form with creamy-white petals and sepals and a slightly narrower labellum and a Perth to Capel form with creamy-white to yellowish-white petals and sepals and a very broad labellum.

Distinguishing Features

All are distinguished from the related Common Spider orchid (Caladenia varians) by their larger flowers and larger, broader labellum.
