Distribution and Habitat

Nerren Nerren Station to Israelite Bay, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and granitic soils in woodlands and shrublands. The species is particularly common on inland granite outcrops and rocky hills.

Description

An inland species 80–100 mm high with a hairy leaf 50–120 mm long by 4–5 mm wide and up to two greenish-yellow and red flowers 10–15 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Zebra orchid (Caladenia cairnsiana) by its shorter scapes, smaller lighter-coloured flowers, slightly spreading, rather than hanging petals and lateral sepals and narrower, less rounded labellum which is held horizontally and has a larger apical callus.
