Distribution and Habitat

Boyup Brook to Frankland River, growing in sandy-clay and lateritic soils in open forests and woodlands.

Description

A rare species 170–400 mm high with a hairy leaf 50–160 mm long by 3–5 mm wide and up to two white, pale yellow or red flowers 50–60 mm across. It is not unusual to find adjacent clumps of plants with different coloured flowers.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Slender Spider Orchid (Caladenia pulchra) by its narrower lateral sepals and smaller labellum. It also occurs in high rainfall forest areas some 180 km to the west of the nearest known population of C. pulchra which is found in much lower rainfall mallee-heath.
