Distribution and Habitat

Manypeaks (town) to Augusta, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and loamy soils in forests, woodlands and shrublands. Although mostly inhabiting upland areas the subspecies may occasionally be found in seasonally wet flats.

Description

A distinctive subspecies 300–600 mm high with a hairy leaf 100–200 mm long by 6–10 mm wide and up to four pale yellow flowers 50–60 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the subsp. augustensis by its pale yellow flowers, longer petals and sepals, and later flowering period. It is also has a much wider distribution extending eastwards to the Mt Manypeaks area. The only other member of the C. longicauda complex that flowers as late as C. pholcoidea is Christmas Spider Orchid (C. serotina) which has shorter more robust and colourful petals and sepals, and a larger labellum.
