Distribution and Habitat

Gnowangerup to Ravensthorpe and northwards to Lake Grace, growing in sandy and sandy-clay soils in woodlands and shrublands. The species is particularly common on the slopes to rivers and seasonal creeks.

Description

An attractive species 200–400 mm high with a hairy leaf 60–150 mm long by 3–4 mm wide and up to three variably coloured red, yellow and white flowers 40–100 mm across. The species is often found in large clumps making for a very attractive sight.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Slender-sepaled Spider Orchid (Caladenia perangusta) by its broader lateral sepals and larger labellum. It also occurs in lower rainfall mallee-heath areas some 180 km to the east of the nearest known population of C. perangusta which is found in high rainfall forest.
