Distribution and Habitat

Northampton to Augusta and eastwards to Esperance, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and lateritic soils in forests, woodlands and shrublands. In some areas the subspecies flowers only in the season following summer fire while in others it flowers every year.

Description

A clump-forming subspecies 50–120 mm high with a hairy leaf, 40–90 mm long by 8–10 mm wide, which is tinged reddish-purple on the underside and up to three pale to deep pink flowers 15–25 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the similar Pink Fairies (Caladenia latifolia) by its usually smaller leaf, fewer flowered inflorescence, smaller flowers, dark pink labellum apex and generally more inland distribution. It also often grows in dense clumps unlike the more widely-spaced colonies of C. latifolia.
