North of Kellerberrin, growing in seasonally damp sandy-clay soil above drainage lines in open Eucalyptus woodland.

A geographically restricted species 200-300 mm high with a hairy leaf 60–120 mm long by 2–4 mm wide and up to three blood-red, pinkish-red or creamy white flowers with maroon stripes and blotches 50-70 mm across; floral odour faint, like burning metal.

It is distinguished from the related Blood Spider Orchid (Caladenia filifera) by its slightly smaller variably coloured flowers, petals and lateral sepals curving obliquely downwards (c.f. pendulous), its shorter petals, its smaller labellum and its usually shorter column and inland range of distribution.
