A geographically restricted species 200-300 mm high with a hairy leaf 60–120 mm long by 2–4 mm wide and up to three blood-red, pinkish-red or creamy white flowers with maroon stripes and blotches 50-70 mm across; floral odour faint, like burning metal.
It is distinguished from the related Blood Spider Orchid (Caladenia filifera) by its slightly smaller variably coloured flowers, its petals and lateral sepals which curve obliquely downwards (vs. pendulous in C. filifera), its shorter petals, its smaller labellum, its usually shorter column and its more inland range of distribution.
