Distribution and Habitat

Yallingup to Nannup, growing in sandy and lateritic soils in woodlands and shrublands.

Description

A rare species 250–400 mm high with a hairy leaf 150–200 mm long by 5–8 mm wide and up to three dull greenish-yellow and red flowers 50–70 mm across. It is often mistaken for a form of Swamp Spider Orchid (Caladenia paludosa) but has smaller flowers, paler petals and lateral sepals and a paler, narrower, less cordate labellum.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Swamp Spider Orchid (Caladenia paludosa) by its slightly smaller flowers, paler petals and sepals, longer lateral sepals which are often splayed horizontally or downcurved rather than upcurved and its dull maroon rather than glossy labellum apex.
