Distribution and Habitat

Forrestania to Balladonia, growing in sandy and sandy-clay soils in shrublands and woodlands. In the north-eastern part of its range the species occupies soil pockets on granite outcrops.

Description

An uncommon species 80–100 mm high with a hairy leaf 50–150 mm long by 4–6 mm wide and one (rarely two) greenish-yellow and red flowers 15–20 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Crested Spider Orchid (Caladenia cristata) by its slightly larger less darkly marked flowers, broader labellum, thicker lamina calli and easterly range of distribution.
