Distribution and Habitat

Eneabba to Cataby, growing in shallow sandy and gravelly soils on low lateritic hills, flowering best in the season following summer fire.

Description

A recently recognised species 40–100 mm high with a shortly hairy leaf, 15–30 mm long by 10–16 mm wide which is tinged reddish-purple on the underside, and up to two (rarely three) pale blue flowers 30–40 mm across. In flowering as early as July it is the first of the Cyanicula gemmata complex to appear each year.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the often co-occurring Blue China Orchid (Cyanicula gemmata) by its earlier flowering period (where they grow together), narrower labellum and taller lamina calli.
