Dendrobium species are evergreen to deciduous epiphytic or lithophytic and vary considerably in form and size, with most species possessing swollen pseudobulbs that act as perennating (storage) organs. Flowering is most often by the production of inflorescences from nodes on the pseudobulb. Flowers may vary in colour, size, form and fragrance.
