Distribution and Habitat

Williams to Mt Barker, growing in sandy-clay and clay soils in forests and woodlands.

Description

A robust species 400–900 mm high with two to three smooth leaves 100–220 mm long by 10–20 mm wide and up to eight large, dull yellow, brown and purple flowers 30–50 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Dunsborough Donkey Orchid (Diuris jonesii) by its larger flowers and more inland range of distribution. From the more distantly related Large Pansy Orchid (D. magnifica) it is distinguished by its larger, less brightly coloured flowers and more south-easterly distribution.
