Distribution and Habitat

Perth to Wellstead, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and lateritic soils in forests, woodlands and shrublands, flowering best following summer fire.

Description

A colourful species 100–350 mm high with two to three smooth leaves 100–200 mm long by 8–12 mm wide and up to eight variably mauve, fawn and purple flowers 20–30 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Darling Scarp Donkey Orchid (Diuris ostrina) by its very long leaves, often exceeding the inflorescence in height, its smaller flowers and its predominantly more southerly distribution.
