Distribution and Habitat

Mandurah to Guilderton, growing in calcareous yellow sandy soils in woodlands and shrublands.

Description

A common, near coastal species 300–600 mm high with two to three smooth leaves 100–200 mm long by 10–20 mm wide and up to nine large, golden-yellow and purple flowers 30–45 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Arrowsmith Pansy Orchid (Diuris tinkeri) by its larger, usually more brightly coloured flowers and more southerly distribution. From the more distantly related Giant Donkey Orchid (D. amplissima) it is distinguished by its smaller, more brightly coloured flowers and more northerly distribution.
