Distribution and Habitat

Canning to Augusta and east to Albany, growing in sandy soils in forests and woodlands.

Description

A small-flowered species 150–300 mm high with a smooth prominently veined, heart-shaped, ground-hugging leaf 8–12 mm long by 8–11 mm wide and a single dull greenish-yellow and purplish-red flower 2–3 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related King-in-his-carriage Orchid (Drakaea glyptodon) by its smaller flowers and smaller less bloated labellum. It also has a distinct apical projection to the column unlike Drakaea glyptodon which lacks an apical projection.
