Description

A common subspecies 150–350 mm high with an often immature, smooth margined leaf 5–40 mm long by 6–12 mm wide (when flowering) and up to 20 white, dull green and red flowers 9–12 mm across. The leaves on non-flowering plants are often much larger than those on flowering plants.

It is distinguished from the closely related subsp. magnus by its usually smaller leaf, shorter inflorescence and more densely packed flowers. Unlike that subspecies it requires a summer fire to flower well, appearing in much lower numbers in unburnt bushland.
