Distribution and Habitat

Jurien Bay to Cape Arid, growing in sandy and sandy-clay soils in seasonally wet flats and run-off areas. The subspecies flowers best in the season following summer fire with flowering plants rare or absent in unburnt bushland.

Description

A colony-forming subspecies 70–150 mm high with a cupped (when flowering), ground-hugging leaf 7–17 mm long by 7–15 mm wide and up to three red, pink and white flowers 9–12 mm across. The leaves of non-flowering plants are dark green, flattened and prominently veined while the leaves of flowering plants are cupped and green to yellowish green.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the subsp. orbifolius by its narrower, cupped leaves.
