Originally Described by

David Don in Prodromus Florae Nepalensis: 30 (1825) as Bletia bicallosa

Distribution and Habitat

North Kimberley, Isdell, Precipice and Edkins Range, Mt Fyfe and Theda Station, growing in seasonally wet savannah woodland and grassy swamplands. Also found in Queensland, New Guinea, the Philippines, China, Nepal and India.

Description

A distinctive species 250–600 mm high with an annually produced, smooth, ribbed, grass-like leaf 250–400 mm long by 10–25 mm across on a distinctive narrow, erect, petiole-like stalk, and up to 22 variably coloured flowers 20–30 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Shepard’s Crook (Eulophia picta) by its erect rather than bent inflorescence, duller coloured flowers and more prominent labellum.
