Three Springs to Albany with disjunct populations east of Esperance, growing in in sandy-clay and clay soils in seasonally wet areas that remain moist into early summer. It is not unusual to find flowering plants growing in several centimetres of water.

A swamp loving species 150–350 mm high with a smooth tubular leaf 100–300 mm long by 2–3 mm wide and up to 30 yellowish-green or dull brownish-red, self-pollinating flowers 2–3 mm across. The species previously known as Late Cupped Mignonette Orchid (M. sp. ‘Windy Harbour’) is now considered a form of M. cupularis.
