Originally Described by

Robert Brown in Prodromus florae Novae Hollandiae et insulae Van-Diemen, exhibens characteres plantarum quas annis 1802-1805: 321 (1810) as Microtis media

Distribution and Habitat

Shark Bay to Eyre, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and lateritic soils in forests, woodlands and shrublands. The subspecies is particularly common in seasonally wet flats and shallow soil pockets on granite outcrops.

Description

A common, widespread subspecies 200–600 mm high with a smooth tubular leaf 250–650 mm long by 3–8 mm wide and up to 100 yellowish-green flowers 2.5–3 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the subsp. densiflora by its taller, less pyramidal shaped inflorescence, thicker textured labellum margins and distinctly raised apical labellum callus.
