Spiculaea has a small, fleshy, smooth, oval shaped leaf and up to 10 small, straw coloured flowers with a narrow, erect dorsal sepal, narrow, hanging petals and lateral sepals, an incurved column with two large ‘mantis-like’ wings and a small, loosely hinged labellum. The genus is unique among Western Australian orchids in having a succulent flower stem which enables it to continue flowering and fruiting well after the leaf and base of the stem have shrivelled.
