Distribution and Habitat

Geraldton to Augusta and eastwards to Israelite Bay, growing on creek margins and seasonally moist flats. In dryer inland areas it occupies run-off areas on granite outcrops. The species is also found in South Australia and Victoria.

Description

A common species 200–350 mm high with a broad, smooth leaf 50–150 mm long by 20–30 mm wide and up to 10 pale yellow or yellowish-green and brown, spotted or blotched flowers 25–40 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Chestnut Sun Orchid (Thelymitra fuscolutea) by its generally less colourful flowers, more prominently bulbous column apex, fewer column hairs and earlier flowering period. It also has a much wider distribution.
