Distribution and Habitat

North of Gidgegannup, growing in sandy-clay or lateritic soils in open woodlands and shallow soil pockets on granite outcrops.

Description

A rare species 200–400 mm (occasionally up to 500 mm) high with a broad, smooth leaf 100–200 mm long by 20–40 mm wide and up to 15 brown and yellow, cinnamon-scented flowers 40–50 mm across. flowers 40–50 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the closely related York Sun Orchid (Thelymita yorkensis) by its usually larger leaf, taller stature (up 400 mm or more), generally more numerous flowers (up to 15) which are characteristically more darkly marked at their centre and more north-westerly distribution
