Distribution and Habitat

Gingin to Augusta and eastwards to Esperance, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and lateritic soils in forests and woodlands.

Description

A robust species 300–1000 mm high with a relatively broad (compared with other members of the complex), smooth, longitudinally-ribbed leaf 100–400 mm long by 20–40 mm wide and up to 30 fragrant, blue, mauve, purple, pink or white flowers 30–50 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the often co-occurring Shy Sun Orchid (Thelymitra graminea) by its taller inflorescence, larger, more numerous flowers, broader, prominently longitudinally-ridged leaf and earlier flowering period.
