A rare species 150–200 mm high with a broad, smooth leaf 50–100 mm long by 20–30 mm wide which is often shrivelled at the time of flowering and up to 12 rich brown and yellow flowers 25–40 mm across.

It is distinguished from the related Northern Star Orchid (Thelymitra sp. ‘northern laterite’) and Crystal Brook Star Orchid (T. magnifica) by its shorter, more crowded inflorescence, generally more prominently blotched flowers and later flowering period.
