Distribution and Habitat

South west of York, growing in gravely or loamy soil in open woodland habitat.

Description

An attractive species 100–350 mm high with a broad, smooth leaf 60–150 mm long by 20–30 mm wide which is often shrivelled at the time of flowering and up to 10 orange and yellow, cinnamon-scented flowers 30–50 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Cinnamon Sun Orchid (Thelymitra dedmaniarum) by its usually smaller leaf, shorter stature (usually under 350 mm), less numerous flowers (up to 10) which are usually not as darkly coloured at their center and more south-easterly distribution.
