Annual forb to 25cm tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, leaf bases continuing  a short way down the stems. Leaves 1-2cm long, 1-2.5mm wide, linear, slightly sticky, the upper surface hairy becoming hairless, the lower surface hairy; margins curved down, tips pointed. Flowers yellow, with 0 petals. Flower heads bell-shaped to hemispherical, borne singly at the ends of the stems.

Differs from Leptorhynchos tetrachaetus in that the there are 1, rarely 2-3, bristles on the seeds, and long hairs along the upper half of the bristles. This is easiest seen with a low power microscope.
