An order of at least 100,000 described species of holometabolous neopterans, classified in two suborders, the Symphyta (wood wasps and sawflies) and Apocrita (wasps, bees and ants).

A few hymenopterans parasitise aquatic insects, including Trichogrammatidae (Code QG499999) that parasitise eggs. Scelionidae (Code QG249999) , whose adults can swim under water, are not uncommonly encountered in aquatic samples.
