The Araneae are Arachnida: arthropods with four pairs of legs and only 2 pairs of feeding appendages, the chelicerae (clawed) and pedipalps. The Arachnids are a predominantly terrestrial group, but at least four families include some truly aquatic species. Other families may be met with on aquatic vegetation.
