A family of slug-like molluscs, without a shell but with a leathery upper body surface, found in intertidal, supralittoral, or mangrove habitats around Australia's coastline. No species is truly aquatic but some occur in near-fresh waters. Five species are known from Australia. When in water, onchidiids utilise cutaneous respiration, otherwise they make use of their pulmonary cavity. Some species have papillae over their body surface bearing unusual accessory eyes. |
