Class Gastropoda: Subclass Prosobranchia: Order Monotocardia.

The family Hydrococcidae is monotypic for Hydrococcus brazieri , endemic to Australia. The taxonomic status was revised by Ponder (1982b). Distribution ranges from coastal Tasmania, Bass Strait, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia as far as Shark Bay. Being a salt-marsh species and often found in large numbers, it requires regular immersion in salt water but regularly is found well above the high neap tide mark or on muddy sand flats out of the water.
